Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Complications
For children suffering from ADHD attention of parents and teachers is crucial. They can be often mocked at and insulted by their peers, which makes them feel left out and depressed.
Another potential danger this condition involves is greater probability of injury or even accident. According to the recent findings, people with ADHD get involved in accidents or precarious situations more often than people who do not have this disease.
Alcohol abuse, drug dependency and law offence can also be caused or influenced by the disorder. People suffering from ADHD run the higher risk of failure in relationships.
It has been estimated that about a third of ADHD kids grow out of all the symptoms exhibited in the childhood, while another third carries on with the conditions and symptoms developed earlier. The rest children, that make another third, are likely to develop additional problems and conditions as they progress into their adult years. These problems are connected with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and can develop into one of the following conditions:
-Depression. Is found in adults as well as children suffering from ADHD.
-Learning disabilities. If a child has learning disability along with ADHD, serious help is required, with involvement of the educational institution as important part of the treatment.
-Tourette syndrome. This brain disorder is characterized by involuntary verbal outbursts and sudden movements. It often occurs in children with ADHD.
-(ODD) Oppositional defiant disorder. ODD is found in 50% of ADHD kids, although it occurs in boys more frequently than in girls. This condition involves aggressive behavior towards people who can be viewed as holding the authority.
-Conduct disorder. This condition is viewed as more complicated and serious that Oppositional Defiant Disorder. It involves behavior patterns that are clearly antisocial: destruction of property, vandalism, stealing, injuring people and living creatures. This category of kids needs immediate attention and serious help.
-Anxiety disorders. The symptoms are various and include dizziness, nervousness and worry, fast hearbeat, profuse sweating and others. Such disorders are quite often found in children with ADHD, but tend to go away if treated in the right way (with special therapy, drugs, or the combination of both). When the anxiety disorder is alleviated, patients find it easier to deal with other problems Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder may cause.
